Workshop Young Researchers 2010
'Comparative social security and social protection research'

European Institute of Social Security

From its birth in 1968 the European Institute of Social Security aims to bring together all those interested in social security and social protection in Europe be it from a legal, a sociological, an economical, administrative background. Every year the EISS organises a yearly conference on a 'hot' topic of the moment, the national sections of the EISS organise other seminars or meetings for their respective members. Next to conferences, seminars and research projects, the EISS also pays great attention to the education in the field of social security and social protection throughout Europe.
The Workshop for Young Researchers is one of those initiatives which is taken by the EISS secretariat general itself and is organised together with one of its national sections every 2 years.

This Workshop for Young Researchers gives 'young' researchers (researchers with at least one year research experience) a forum for discussing their research topic and the opportunity to get acquainted with methodological issues related to comparing social security systems of various countries. This Workshop can be an excellent learning platform when making a PhD or even preparing a PhD proposal.

The Next Workshop for Young Researchers will be organised from the 25th of April until the 1st of May 2010 by the Austrian section of the European Institute of Social Security together with the secretariat general of the EISS in Graz (Austria). We invite you to consult your own 'young' researchers and colleagues whether they might be interested in participating in this Workshop.

Programme

The Workshop week contains five lessons on comparing social security (in general, from a statistical, a legal, a sociological, and an economic perspective), taught by experienced social security professors from all over Europe. The main focus however is on the presentation of the research participants are carrying out and the discussion of the topics they are dealing with. To that end every prospective participant is asked to send in a paper of approx. 10 pages summarizing his research topic and the issues he/she would like to discuss with fellow participants. Every person who is admitted will also have to prepare a critical analysis and comments upon the presentation paper of one other participant. At the end of the week an exercise on writing a project proposal will be made.
Attached you find information on the Preliminary Programme.

The registration fee (including accommodation with breakfast (6 nights), light lunch, excursion and farewell dinner) is 650,00 EUR for non-EISS members and 550,00 Euro for EISS-members. The fee has to be paid beforehand. An invoice is send after the acceptance of the application.
